The Association willingly accepted her request and as a result, each year we hold an annual Vision Day Event. On this day, we give small rolls of candy to passers-by in order to raise awareness of the need for vision research and to thank our community for their continuing support. We also accept used eye glasses, used hearing aids and monetary donations. This event perhaps more than any other, symbolizes the Lions primary mission, which is Vision Research and Treatment of Vision Disorders. The eyeglasses and hearing aids are recycled to individuals with compatible needs and monetary donations benefit the  The Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation Center at Johns Hopkins' Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore Maryland, where they are used for research as well as diagnosis and treatment for individuals suffering from blindness and other vision disorders.

Background Information about The Lions Club of Rising Sun

We were chartered on June 8, 1932 after being sponsored by the Quarryville PA Lions Club, and in turn have been the sponsor of the Perryville Lions Club (April 28, 1944), the Port Deposit Lions Club (February 17, 1947), the North East Lions Club (March 27, 1947), the Conowingo Lions Club (January 1, 2000), and the West Nottingham Academy LEO Club (December 11, 2002).

We are members of Multiple District 22B which is comprised of the Lions in the nine counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland; of Multiple District 22 , which is comprised of all of the Lions in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Colombia; and of Lions Clubs International , which is a network of 1.3 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas working together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.

We are a Non-Profit, 501(c)(4) Social Welfare Organization, incorporated within the State of Maryland. All funds received from the public are used to promote other worthwhile non-profit organizations and causes that benefit the community or needy individuals within the community.   Public funds never inure to the benefit of The Lions Club of Rising Sun or to any officer, director or member thereof.  Contributions to The Lions Club of Rising Sun are not deductible for Federal Income Tax purposes.

The Lions Club of Rising Sun Coffee Pot was conceived by one of our now deceased members, Bill McNamee, in early 1937 and built by Howard Wilson (Bill’s Uncle) with help from Bill, Charlie Ritchie, Cliff Marker and other members and supporters of our Club in what was then the Wilson & McNamee Garage on West Main Street. It was originally used as a portable Hot Dog and Coffee vending booth. Since then it has been renovated and adopted as a Club mascot, and while we no longer use it for food vending, we do tow it to various events throughout the local area to promote awareness of our Lions Club and to generate public interest and support for the work that we do.

    The Lions Code of Ethics

  • TO SHOW my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application to the end that I merit a reputation for quality service.

  • TO SEEK success and demand all fair remuneration or profits my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my self respect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part.

  • TO REMEMBER that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down anothers; to be loyal to by clients or customers and true to myself.

  • WHENEVER a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action toward my fellow men to resolve such doubt against myself.

  • TO HOLD friendship as an end and not as a means, to hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it was given.

  • ALWAYS bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state and my community, and to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor and means.

  • TO AID my fellow man by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.

  • TO BE CAREFUL with my criticism and liberal with my praise, to build up and not destroy.

    Recognition and Appreciation

We would like to thank the members of American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194 in Rising Sun, for their prior service to our nation and their current support of our community and our Lions Club.   We are fortunate to hold our meetings and several of our fundraising events at their beautiful facility and to have several of them as members of our Lions Club.   It is through their willing and generous support that our Lions Club is able to accomplish many of it's goals and objectives.

We would also like to thank the members and sponsors of Venturing Crew #28 for their continuing support.   Their able assistance during some of our larger fundraising events makes our job much easier.   We believe this organization develops fine young girls and boys who demonstrate their depth of character, and commitment to their community, through their support of our Lions Club.   When the crew members become adults, we invite each of them to join our Lions Club and to continue their support of Lionism.

And perhaps most importantly, we would like to thank Everyone within our community who supports Lionism and contributes to our fundraising efforts.   Your continued support is essential to fund vision research and to help many other worthwhile causes within our community.bullet

    Thank You !
